Twisting Technology

Twisting is one of the most classic operations that can be performed on a thread. It involves twisting the thread on itself to modify its properties. A more twisted thread will be stronger and offer greater elasticity.

Twisting of the threads: : from the mill to double twisting, a precise and controlled process

This twisting is carried out either on a mill or on double twisting (DT) equipment. The thread is positioned on a spindle, rotating at a fixed speed. The thread goes back inside the spindle before going up to the receiving support. With each turn of the spindle, the thread makes two turns on itself, hence the name “double twisting”.

SOFILA has double-twist equipment suitable for all materials and all titrations, from 10 to over 25,000 dtex

The most iconic twisted yarns are the historic, very highly twisted viscose-based yarns for high-end clothing: viscose crepe (up to 2,000 twists) is a perfect example.
