Fancy yarns Technology
Fancy yarns are yarns with more or less pronounced visual effects. They have been used for a very long time to highlight effects in fabrics.
Sabran, or “boutonnés” yarns
These threads have an extra thickness in places. This is achieved by using two threads (possibly of different materials) and making a kind of irregular covering: the speed of the core thread varies and when it slows down, the covering thread overlaps itself, creating an extra thickness. You can decide on the thickness, length and frequency of the effect, and even make it random to avoid creating a pattern in the fabric. These threads can be made from any material.
Boucle yarn
As its name suggests, this yarn has a succession of loops, making it a very airy yarn. The fabric made from this yarn has a soft and irregular feel.
Flame yarn
This yarn has an irregularity obtained by texturizing (rubbing) in places. It can be made using two yarns: a textured effect yarn, which must therefore be synthetic, polyamide or polyester, and a core yarn which can be made of another material (viscose, for example). SOFILA has specific equipment for producing this type of thread, with a single pass and a pass through a texturizing oven, before the threads are bound together. The length, thickness and frequency of the effect can be adjusted.
Sandblasted
or crisped yarn
This yarn has a constant and close irregularity, which gives the impression that it is folded back on itself. This effect is obtained by texturizing the yarn at the same time as it is twisted. This effect only works on synthetic threads (polyesters or polyamides in general). It is achieved on a specific machine that SOFILA has, and on which we have manufactured large quantities, for garments in general.
