The fashion sector has always been a source of innovation in the textile industry: new materials and new combinations to offer ever more elegance and comfort. Today, clothing and fashion are also turning to sportswear, which opens up new possibilities in the technicality of the materials used, and new horizons for designers. Sofila supports this creativity by offering new threads, whether they are aesthetic or functional… or both!
Fashion garments and sportswear in particular are characterized by a high degree of creativity in the materials used: silk, cotton, linen, viscose, polyamide, polyester, etc., with the possibility of adding a comfort dimension, either by adding elastane (to give the fabric its “stretch” property) or by using a material that is more effective for thermoregulation, such as our Becool®, which promotes moisture evacuation.
Assembled yarns, to offer a more original mix of materials in terms of appearance, feel or physical properties, such as a cotton/polyamide blend or organzines, made from cotton, viscose or polyamide, or even frisottines and ribouldingues, specialties inherited from the Schwarzenbach mills.
Covered yarn, where one material is completely covered by another, often to integrate elastane into the core of the material without it being visible: this makes it possible to obtain a very high quality and very durable elastic thread. This is used in particular for denim materials, on a cotton + elastane base (fiber wrapping) or more active materials, on a polyamide + elastane base (filament wrapping). It can also be used to highlight a more fragile material that cannot be directly woven, such as Lurex (metallo-plastic) thread covering polyamide to give strength.
Fancy yarns, which include all yarns with an irregular appearance, which multiplies the possibilities for those involved in clothing. Some examples are Sabran, bouclette, boutonné, flammé and crispé (sablé).
Textured yarns, made from synthetic yarns, which give the fabric a fibrous, soft and more elastic appearance. These include Biltex(r), an air texturizing process for polyamides or polyesters, promoted by Billion as early as the 1950s, and BeCool(r) thermoregulatory yarns, a SOFILA brand for a yarn that allows for very good moisture wicking.
Plain twisted yarn, very regular, used to produce a high-quality, very uniform fabric. SOFILA has been producing the famous viscose crepe yarn, rayon, as well as all natural and synthetic yarns for many years.
