Artificial
Materials

Artificial materials were developed at the beginning of the 20th century. These are materials derived from natural products, which have been transformed using chemical and physical processes to be able to be presented in the form of threads. In this category, there are filaments or spun fibers of very diverse origins, for the most part worked by SOFILA for many years: SOFILA was already working with viscose “rayon” shortly after its invention!

Organic artificial materialss

These fibers come mainly from cellulose sources, such as wood or other natural materials, and are processed to meet specific needs.

Viscose

Made from wood pulp, this cellulose fiber is often considered an artificial silk thanks to its extremely soft feel.
All the viscose offered by SOFILA is FSC certified, guaranteeing responsible forest management.

Characteristics

  • Specific assemblies such as viscose crepe (highly twisted).
  • Innovations such as Ribouldingue and Frisottine assemblies, based on unique assemblies and twists..

Applications :

  • Garments
  • Lace

Acetate

Other cellulose fibers processed to obtain a shiny effect and a soft feel. This material is also used for garments and upholstery.

Lyocell

Again, a cellulose fiber produced from eucalyptus, which has the distinction of being more environmentally friendly because the solvent used is almost entirely recycled. SOFILA works with lyocell, including that of the Tencel brand.

Other fibers artificial organic

Offered to meet specific customer requirements:

  • Cupro
  • Modal

Inorganic artificial materials

These fibers are designed for technical uses requiring specific performance, such as thermal, mechanical or chemical resistance.

Glass-based yarns

Available in the form of filaments or glass fibers. SOFILA offers custom-made assemblies according to customer needs

  • Properties: High cut resistance.
  • Excellent thermal performance.
  • Available glass types: E, D, AR, S, R.
